Camphor is a Modest, Quiet Neighborhood in Lakeland, Florida and Has Relatively Affordable Ranc Ramblers and Tall Trees

The neighborhood is home to about 1,000 people and gets its name from the rows of camphor trees that line both sides of Camphor Drive, creating a classic shaded canopy between Ariana Street and Beacon Road. Neighborhood streets are tree-lined and some do not have sidewalks.

Most homes here date from the 1950s and are ranch ramblers with two to three bedrooms and a one car garage. Lots are nice sized with mature trees. Some homesites are a little overgrown, while others are nicely tended. The median home price is $170,000.

The median age is 43. Empty nesters and boomers enjoy the Camphor neighborhood because it is quiet and relatively inexpensive.

In 2017, Camphor formed its first community association and sponsors scheduled events such as a community yard sale, a food swap, a park clean-up and more, creating a sense of community identity.

The neighborhood has little racial diversity, and politics lean to the right.

Summer temperatures are in the 80s and 90s, and winter temperatures are in the 50s, 60s and 70s. On average, the area receives 54 inches of rain per year.
